“The Initiative Group on Human Rights in Crimea” is the free coalition of the organizations of Ukraine, Russia and other countries, as well as individual experts ready to work together to protect the human rights in the Crimean peninsula.
The main objectives of the coalition are:
- exercising international control over observance of fundamental human rights in the territory of Crimea;
- coordinating the overall efforts to protect and promote human rights in the abovementioned territory;
- supporting civic initiatives in the field of human rights, operating in Crimea and for Crimea;
- making recommendations to international intergovernmental organizations and international civil society to respond to reported violations of human rights in the peninsula.
The coalition is a non-political association and acts on the basis of the principles of human rights, non-violence and non-discrimination. The individual members of the coalition may disagree over public assessments of the events of March 2014, although declaring their willingness to work together to protect and promote human rights in the peninsula. They can both take some independent actions and unite in different groups to work together.
One of the tools of the coalition’s activity is the Crimean Field Mission on Human Rights (CFM), which is carrying out systematic monitoring of the human rights situation in the Crimean peninsula. Along with the CFM, the coalition members can initiate the other tools to work directly in the field of human rights in Crimea.
The associations of different countries, which share the mentioned principles, should feel free to join the coalition.
